I’ll admit that I’ve never owned a pair of Bonjour Jeans. I don’t think I’ve ever even seen them in stores. They were probably one of those brands that simply didn’t make it from the USA across the border to Canada. But never mind that I know nothing of the jeans — it’s the labels’ ’80s ads that have me cheering, particularly the 1983 campaign shot by photographer Bruce Nemeth. The girls. The windows. The inside-outside reversal. Those deceivingly simple studio shots stop me dead in my vintage magazine page-flipping tracks every time.

All Bonjour Jeans ads originally appeared in the following magazines:

1. Seventeen, April 1980.

2. Vogue, June 1983. Photograph by Bruce Nemeth.

3. Seventeen, October 1983. Photograph by Bruce Nemeth.

4. Vogue, September 1983. Photograph by Bruce Nemeth.

5. Vogue, May 1983. Photograph by Bruce Nemeth.

6. Vogue, February 1983. Photograph by Bruce Nemeth.

7. Mademoiselle, March 1983. Photograph by Bruce Nemeth.

8. Seventeen, February 1984.

9. Seventeen, August 1987. Photograph by Eddie Celnick.
