For me at least, the Christian Dior Maquillage ads defined 1980s aspirational makeup. The looks were designed by makeup artist wunderkind — and later fashion photographer extraordinaire — Tyen. His bold and creative makeup paired with the models’ faraway looks made for a distinct and always page-stopping experience.

All advertisements for Christian Dior Maquillage originally appeared in the following magazines:

1. Vogue, March 1986.

2. Vogue, September 1985.

3. Model magazine, September 1988.

4. Vogue, September 1987.

5. Vogue, March 1988.

6. Vogue, April 1985.

7. Harper’s Bazaar, December 1985.

8. Harper’s Bazaar, September 1986.

9. Vogue, March 1984.
