As an avid collector of vintage books, one distinct advantage of living in Canada is the UK connection. For years, the British bookstore chain WH Smith had shops all across the country, and a British bookstore meant lots of British books. So, today, when I’m on the hunt at a thrift shop or charity book sale, I often many published in the UK.
The three-in-one spectacular that is The Complete Beauty Book/The Complete Skincare Book/Ten Easy Steps to Hair Care is one of those finds. Is it dated? Yes. Cheesy? For sure. But absolutely awesome? Indeed.
At nearly 400 pages, it weighs almost 2 kilograms (that’s over 4 pounds for those who don’t speak metric) and is crammed with full-page photographs throughout. Sure, there are makeup tips, hair how-tos and step-by-step skincare regimens to be found, but it’s the full-colour ’80s photo explosion that’s the real reason to add this one to your vintage fashion and beauty library. And with that, I’ll let this small sampling of what you’ll find inside speak for itself.
