I see a lot of ads, as I scan and post images every weekday for the Periodicult Tumblr blog. I work as quickly as I can, but occasionally I’ve happen across an advert that is so quintessentially ’80s it stops me dead. You know the ones I’m talking about — those with the sharp lines and angles, full of colour and quirk. To me, the art direction and design of these ads are the ’80s done the right way and the images remain arresting today. I’ve gathered a few of my favourites here to perk me up on this back-to-the-grind Monday morning. (above, Bausch & Lomb Expressions Fashion Eyewear, Glamour, May 1985.)
